This access allowed me to participate in the Pride Month event, reflecting a significant moment for the LGBTQIA+ community in New York City. The press card is a tool of empowerment, granting journalists like me the ability to share important stories and contribute to public discourse.

While my steel-boned corset triggered a metal detector, it also sparked a human interaction that revealed the complexities of security in public spaces. The young policewoman's uncertainty highlighted the intersection of personal identity and societal expectations. In a time when security measures often overshadow individual rights, it’s crucial to consider how our personal choices—like fashion—play a role in the narrative of safety and accessibility. My interaction with the police showcased that understanding and communication can bridge gaps, making the process a bit more inclusive.

At City Hall, I was aware that I could be among the first openly transgender reporters in the press pool. This fact alone indicates a gradual yet essential shift in gender representation within journalism.
