Mr. Pink Debuts in the Heart of New York City
This January, the Flatiron and NoMad neighborhoods of New York City welcomed a whimsical new character: Mr. Pink. Created by French artist Philippe Katerine, this enchanting public art installation adds a pop of color and joy to the winter cityscape. As part of the Flatiron NoMad Glows Pink series, Mr. Pink consists of ten illuminated inflatable and resin sculptures that are strategically placed throughout the area from January 15 to February 28, 2026.
Exploring Mr. Pink: A Unique Art Trail
At each of the ten locations, visitors can scan a QR code to participate in a digital “passport” walking tour. Not only does this promote interaction with the art, but it also encourages exploration of the vibrant local business community, with rewards and chances to win various prizes. This winter program aims to infuse creativity and excitement into the cold months, making it more enjoyable for residents and visitors alike.
According to James Mettham, president of the Flatiron NoMad Partnership, the sculptures encourage joy and connection. Each sculpture stands between nine to sixteen feet tall, capturing the attention of those wandering the streets. The partnership hopes that Mr. Pink will not only brighten up the gray winter days but also foster a sense of community and welcome among those who encounter him.
The Heart and Soul of Mr. Pink
Mr. Pink is not just a delightful sculpture; he speaks volumes about the human experience. Katerine describes him as embodying joy but also carries a scar over his heart, symbolizing the wounds that we all endure in life. This duality invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences, making Mr. Pink a relatable figure in the bustling urban landscape.
Join the Fun: What to Look Forward To
To celebrate Mr. Pink’s presence, the Flatiron NoMad Partnership is hosting special events throughout the installation period, including a grand launch on January 15 and a Valentine’s Day event featuring themed activities. Participating businesses are also getting in on the fun, offering special merchandise like limited-edition Mr. Pink keychains and specialty cocktails, enhancing the local culture during this limited-time art trail.
For those looking to brighten up their winter days, a stroll through the Flatiron and NoMad district to see Mr. Pink is a charming experience not to be missed. For updates and more information about the art installations and accompanying events, check the official Flatiron NoMad website.
